About your union

UTSU (pronounced "ut-zoo") is the University of Tirton's central student union, and every Tirton student is automatically a member. Its primary purpose is to provide a voice to students :
UTSU exists to allow Tirton students to campaign on issues that matter to them;
UTSU gets students represented to the University, to the NUS, to trade unions, to local and national government, to anyone Tirton students think should be aware of their views.

UTSU is 12 years old this year, and in that time it has picked up an array of other useful services for its members. The Student Advice Service is UTSU's welfare provider, willing to deal with any and all issues students might need advice on during their time in Tirton: it is staffed by four of UTSU's full time officers and is able to offer guidance on everything ranging from accommodation issues, to depression and anxiety, to unplanned pregnancy, to representation if your college wants to discipline you. UTSU also has the distinction of being the largest student publisher in Europe, producing not only the award-winning Tirton Student newspaper every Wednesday, but also the Tirton Handbook guide to the city's highlights and low spots; there are also guides for Freshers', mature, graduate and international students and the highly-respected Tirton Careers Handbook, and many, many more. Because colleges have their own bars, UTSU has never had a central student venue, but promotes its own club nights, trying to ensure safe, accessible and enjoyable nights for all Tirton students. Each college also has a JCR and an MCR to look after the interests of its own undergraduates and graduates respectively: if your Common Room affiliates to UTSU, it will also get the benefit of officer training, assistance with rent negotiations, and other services.
