Ian Higginson

Ian has composed and arranged much music, which has been published by Hinshaw Music USA, St. James Music Press USA, Boosey & Hawkes, Animus Publishing and Parish Publications. Much of his music has won critical acclaim from both sides of the Atlantic, some of which has been selected as set works for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music examinations and competitive music festivals around the country. Organ compositions include the highly acclaimed ‘Cotswold Collection’.
His music has been performed at prestigious events, including the Piccolo Spoleto Festival USA, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Chorus and Orchestra, City of Glasgow Chorus, Bristol Cathedral Concert Choir and also the CBSO Chorus and Orchestra.
Ian's most recent large scale compositions include a Missa Brevis for SATB and Organ accompaniment, a Mass for Soloists, SATB Chorus and Orchestra entitled 'In Times of Trouble' (a work which is scored for SATB Chorus, Soloists and Orchestra and has recently been performed for the first time).
He has also written a setting of the Requiem Mass for SATB chorus, Soloists and orchestra, commissioned and first performed in 1998 by Cheltenham Choral Society with the world famous Soprano soloist - Dame Felicity Lott.
In addition to the many compositions and arrangements which are published by Parish Publications, Ian also has music published by other publishers. These include three Shakespeare song settings ‘Oh Mistress Mine’, ‘Fear No More’ and ‘It was a Lover and His Lass’ which are included in a volume of Shakespeare songs - published by Boosey & Hawkes. One of these settings has been a set work on the Associated Board Grade 5 syllabus for several years. Also two songs – ‘Everyone Sang’ and ‘Picture Books in Winter’ which are included in 'The Twentieth Century Song collection' which is also published by Boosey & Hawkes. One of these is frequently used as a set piece for competitive music festivals around the UK. 'Welcome the Star' - A collection of 25 Christmas choral titles which is published by St. James Music Press in the USA. and 'Star of Wonder' a collection of 38 Chirstmas carols for SATB choir and organ / Piano which is published by Parish Publications.
Ian is currently compiling a folio of music of various styles which would be suitable for film and or television.
